Hello World Agent

Agent That Publishes to Canvas

Without the SDK — Memory API (REST)
Section titled “Without the SDK — Memory API (REST)”If your agent doesn’t need to join the world, use the authenticated REST Memory API directly. It
needs no WebSocket or world login and works from any language. This example assumes
MEM_API_KEYS=memory-secret:my-agent was set when Marina started.

Room Agents vs User Agents
Section titled “Room Agents vs User Agents”Marina has two kinds of agents that coexist in the same world:
User agents are spawned by humans via the dashboard, CLI (agent spawn), or SDK. You choose the model, role, and goal. They connect to whatever LLM provider you configure and can roam freely across rooms.

When a room’s onEnter handler calls ctx.spawnRoomAgent(), the world creates an agent bound to that room with a predefined role (guide, oracle, proctor, etc.). Room agents use the marina/default model, which routes through the local /v1/chat/completions endpoint and proxies to whichever upstream provider has an API key configured. They authenticate automatically via an internal token.

Both types are full entities — they perceive events, build memory, use the same commands, and appear identically to other players. A human talking to a room agent and a user agent in the same room cannot tell from the interface which is which.
